Building a SMART Home
Residential Solar Case Study
Discover how Smart Energy Answers (SEA) helped a family gain energy independence
With the vast amount of brands and products available on the market, investing in solar can be an overwhelming experience for any residential owner. Andrew Gray and his family live in a double-storey home in Kellyville, NSW. They have four bedrooms, internal laundry, pool and an outdoor entertainment area. Andrew needed a sustainable solution to help his family reduce their utility bills and increase their energy independence. Read on to learn more about how SEA helped build an energy-efficient home for Andrew and his family.
Andrew and his family previously lived in a solar-powered home and understood first-hand the benefits it can provide. After receiving large bills for their new property, they decided to make the switch to cleaner energy, but this time they needed a solution which could incorporate pool heating.
“I approached three different companies in my search for a solution; however, SEA was the only one that could come up with a complete solution which included pool heating. I would have had to arrange this myself which would have made the process more daunting,” Andrew says.
Andrew also needed a provider with experience installing Tesla Powerwalls and who could provide a detailed explanation of how to design the system to incorporate these products.
SEA installed the latest panel technology from LG and the SolarEdge inverter due to the user-friendly interface through wifi. Both products have extended warranties for Andrew’s peace of mind. The solar power system would also enable the Tesla Powerwall batteries to be charged and at the same time run the ducted air during the day, along with the Madimack Elite Silent Series pool heat pump. These pool heat pumps are as quiet as they’re efficient and designed as well as built for Australian conditions.
“I had a very positive experience with SEA. From the initial consultation, through to the positioning of the panels, batteries, heat pump, overall care and consideration with the installation (particularly using rigid conduit so that my dogs wouldn’t be able to chew through it). The follow-up also ensured I was kept informed and part of the whole process from start to finish.”
Since investing in the solar power system, Andrew has cut his electricity bills significantly. The new system perfectly combines comfort, performance and efficiency, enabling Andrew and his family to:
- Send back 601 kWh of excess energy to the grid in November and 505 kWh in December last year, providing him with instant credit on his first bill.
- Enjoy a rejuvenating and relaxing swim all year round despite the absence of heat and sunshine.
- Keep cool during summer via their solar-powered air-conditioner.
- Have the peace of mind knowing they have blackout protection as part of their battery system.
- To be fully equipped so they can independently live off the energy generated from the solar panel system.
