NSW Home Energy Saver Program Now Open: What It Means for Solar & Battery Owners

The NSW Government has officially launched the Home Energy Saver Program, giving eligible homeowners and landlords access to zero-interest loans of up to $15,000, helping make solar, batteries, and other energy-saving upgrades more affordable than ever before. The program is designed to help households lower energy bills, improve home comfort, and accelerate the transition to smarter energy solutions.

What Is the NSW Home Energy Saver Program?

The Home Energy Saver Program is a NSW Government initiative aimed at reducing the upfront cost of home energy upgrades.

Eligible households can now apply for:

✅ Zero-interest loans of up to $15,000

✅ Repayment terms of up to 10 years

✅ Support for a range of approved energy-saving upgrades

The program is available to eligible NSW homeowners and landlords with a combined annual taxable household income of up to $210,000, subject to lender approval and responsible lending requirements.

The zero-interest loan is currently available through approved finance providers, including Brighte and Plenti, with additional providers expected to join the program over time.

What Upgrades Are Eligible?

The program covers a wide range of energy-saving technologies, including:

• Rooftop Solar Systems

• Home Battery Storage (including systems like Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy battery, and ESY Sunhome)

• Switchboard Upgrades

• Heat Pump Hot Water Systems

• Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

• EV Level 2 Chargers

• Insulation, Draught Proofing & Other Efficiency Upgrades

This means eligible households may be able to combine solar generation, battery storage, and home electrification upgrades into a single energy improvement plan.

While many homeowners will be interested in using the program for solar and battery storage, the Home Energy Saver Program also supports a broader range of electrification and energy-efficiency improvements. This gives eligible households the flexibility to create a complete home energy solution rather than focusing on a single upgrade.

The NSW Government has also announced a separate Home Energy Saver Discount of up to $4,000 for eligible lower-income households and concession card holders. This discount is expected to become available later in 2026 and is not currently open for applications.

At the time of writing, no closing date has been announced for the Home Energy Saver Program. Funding is expected to support tens of thousands of eligible NSW households, although availability may change as program funding is allocated.
